London 2014 http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/12/london-2014 This last visit to England was much different than my previous ones.  I saw the country in a different light and have a deep appreciation for it.  Everything is very interesting there, from the smallest corner store to the tourists attractions, you can always tell you are in England.  I would love to live there after retirement, although it is quite expensive.  It is very clean, uncluttered and classy with rich history. Although the main purpose of the visit was my brother-in-law's wedding, i still got to take some photos for myself.  I can't wait to go back, enjoy the images!

HONG KONG 2014 http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/12/hong-kong-2014

We have been truly blessed with how much we have experienced since being in Okinawa.  Although it will never be the same because now we have Simon to consider (and soon Lucas), it is still a great time traveling around.  This time around we stopped in Hong Kong on the way to visit Nicola's family.  If I could describe Hong Kong in one word, it would be SHOPPING.  I personally do not find any interest in photographing high end shop or their products, but everywhere we looked there was a huge mall or stores everywhere. Anything you could want within walking distance, New York is small time in comparison.  The culture is a bit better than our visit to China, although similar in many ways, the people seem to be a tad less rude. Overall a very nice trip and I got a new toy while I was at it, the Fujifilm X100S is a joy to carry around!  Enjoy the images.  Feel free to comment and share!

No Pressure http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/11/no-pressure   Since I started my photographic journey, I have wondered what it would be like to shoot a wedding.  I always knew it would be a bit nerve wrecking to be the person responsible for capturing someone's special day, and do it well.  It just so happens my brother-in-law whipped up a wedding and they asked me to be the photographer!  At first, in the back of my mind, I was thinking "no way, I won't have that responsibility on me".  The bride and groom-to-be put me at ease and said no biggie, just do your best.  At the end, obviously I had no choice... my wife told me I had to do it.

Between my father-in-law giving me a pep talk on the morning of the wedding and yelling at us to get out of the house so we can make it on time and my pregnant wife telling me to relax... a guy can get a bit overwhelmed.  I was freaking out a bit and was afraid I had left something at the house.  I showed up about an hour early and I think people thought I was a bit over the top with the amount of equipment I brought to a wedding at the local register office.  Nevertheless, you always need back up equipment right?? Once guests started arriving, I immediately felt my throat dry up, and my heart pumping faster than usual.  The bride's dad had some difficulties with the flower shop and arrived 10 minutes late.  Naturally, the bride was feeling anxious since we only had 45 minutes to get it all done!  Just when it seemed like the day was taking a turn for the worse, her father showed up and the show was on the road.  When it was game time, I put on my big boy pants and did what I knew how to do, shoot to my heart's content.  They looked great, the bride was beautiful and the groom is just a stud.  The rest of the day/night went very well and we had a blast.  Here are some of my personal favorites, if you would like to see them alll and purchase digital downloads to print at your leisure, click on one of the below to go to the gallery.  At this time, you cannot make purchases on a mobile device, sorry for the inconvenience. Enjoy and thank you for visiting my blog.

Freezing the action (Sumo) http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/10/freezing-the-action-sumo  I am a bit behind at the moment, between work, family and business, sometimes my own personal things take a backseat.  I quickly went through the Sumo photos and picked out a few that stood out to me, I didn't retouch them, just converted them to .JPG and size them for web use.  Enjoy the set.  Comments are always welcomed, you can also like my Facebook page to get content through there. Thanks :D

Tokyo trip Part 2 http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/9/tokyo-trip-part-2 Part two of a three part series.  We spent 4 nights in Tokyo and although I am not dying to go back, I would not mind visiting again.  It was our second time there and we had a very good time.  I will say one thing though, the subway is not the most child friendly place... I was having to carry my son with the push chair up and down stairs, along with all our bags and camera equipment, hell of a work out.

We visited the Yodobashi store, it is camera heaven.  They have massive selections of all brands, also a floor dedicated to lighting equipment and so on.  It was definitely a huge improvement over the Okinawa selection of camera stores.

Simon needs to be entertained often, everyone always compliments us  and says "KAWAIIIIIII" which means cute in Japanese. So this girl was trying to be sneaky and take a snap of Nicola and Simon interacting, so i jumped in front of her and took it instead, so really I have to give her some credit :D

Do people look at me and think I am strange for photographing certain scenarios? Sure, but this image just feels real to me, this is very common on trains/buses and we often overlook it, unless it is our snoring friend, then we take a video of it and laugh at them later.

You would think Simon is lost in a forest but he is just practicing his baby walking skills in rough terrain, a few seconds after the above image was taken he proceeded to scream for mummy to get him out of the dangerous jungle!

The man and I were next to each other on the sidewalk, I looked at him and he nodded. As soon as the walking man came on, I sprinted in front of him and started snapping away, I took his nodding as permission to photograph him, he obviously didn't have an issue with it.

How random is this? We happen to be in Japan, with Simon and we come across this sign... Of course i had to keep it.

I was never a fan of pork, never a fan of soup or noodles, but Japan has made me a believer.  One thing I will definitely miss is certain food here.

One thing I've learned is that if you want someone to do something, you just have to do it yourself and they will mirror you. PEACE!

We went to Ginza for a stroll and we ended up getting some nice photos of the lovely Nicola, see below:

I hope you enjoyed these, part three will be the sumo matches. Please register and subscribe to follow my blog posts, thanks.

Tokyo trip Part 1 http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/9/tokyo-trip  I'm lucky enough to have a wife who maximizes opportunity.  She was able to book 4 nights at The New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo, some people wait up to a year waiting to come here!  There was one room left and It is during the weekdays but still, thanks Nick.  I am lugging around all my gear, definitely getting my physical fitness up to par.  I thought i was traveling light by bringing two lenses, two flashes, a tripod and some accessories... You wouldn't think so if you saw me walking down the street. Well, let's get to the fun part of the post... Photos!  I'll be updating this blog as my two last days come to a close, stay tuned.

WanderersThe amount of people that cross Shibuya crossing is insane. We sat there for a significant amount of time and it just never stops. I always wonder where they are going.

Wanderers:  I always wonder where all these people walking are going... We sat for 45 minutes watching people go by, the flow never let up.

I wasn't sure if old boy there was checking himself out or cleaning the window pane.

Simon's reaction to sitting next to Pinocchio was hilarious, he kept this pose for a good 6 seconds.

We went back to Shibuya crossing to get this night shot, it is actually three images merged together.

Simon being a cheeky boy.  This boy makes and breaks my day <3

A weekend in Okinawa by Leandros Rubio Photography http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/8/a-weekend-in-okinawa---by-leandros-rubio-photography    You have one weekend in Okinawa, what can you do?  Plenty, if you know where to go.  There is always something to do, whether it be attending events such as festivals and the world famous Naha Giant Tug of War; enjoying beautiful beaches and parks; or immersing yourself in the rich history the island has to offer.  This weekend was eventful, my family and I went to see the Eisa competition, enjoyed the food stands and interacted with the locals, who are extremely nice.  Here are some images for your viewing pleasure.

Family matters http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/7/los-hernandez  Okinawa weather may look beautiful, but it can be rather extreme. Humidity reaches 100% at times and it makes it challenging to keep the family happy.  I had the chance to shoot this beautiful family of four - just barely! Everything was set, when the unexpected, or should I say expected, happened.  Weather was nice all day and all of a sudden, 20 minutes before the session, it started to pour with rain! I still went to the location and so did the family.  Luckily, it cleared up and we ended up having beautiful skies. As soon as I took my first shot, I glanced over and I could sense Dad was about done with the whole thing, the kids were cranky and hungry; Mom was the only one still in the game.  I did what I could to keep it going, but let's be honest, only I think I am funny... I may just make things worse with my awkward sense of humor. I worked quickly and efficiently to capture some very nice images that the family loved.

New beginnings http://leandrosrubiophotography.com/blog/2014/4/new-beginnings   Very excited to officially kick this off.  I'll be using this blog to post updated information and share some event highlights as they happen.  I hope to please my clients with beautiful images they can use for the rest of their lives.  It is not easy to juggle work, kid(s), wife and life, I may just start start venting on here!

I have spent countless hours (500+) studying and learning the ins and outs of photography, but nothing prepares you for the real world.  Speaking with clients, performing the actual shoot, and editing all the images to be delivered within a timeframe is no small task.  I think it will become easier as I find my rhythm, but i do feel the pressure at the moment.  The few clients i had the pleasure of working with have been very happy with my work, it definitely gives me the confidence i need to continue to pursue this passion of mine.

Well, that's all for my first post, follow my blog for any specials, discounts and tips; or if you just want to know how it's done!

Note: The featured photo is of Steve and Erika at a beautiful Toguchi sunset.
